Hello readers and future collaborators!

On behalf of the steering committee for the People’s Handbook for Diaspora Reporting, we want to thank everyone for their interest in building this resource in such a critical moment in history.

The community of practice we’re cultivating is meant to support folks across disciplines in developing best practices for informing diaspora communities. The guide we’re creating together will explore approaches to language, sourcing, and collaboration that reflect the lived realities of these communities.

We hope to create a space where we can reimagine what journalism could look like if it moved beyond crisis-driven coverage and instead committed to building information systems that are accountable, resonant, and truly in service to the communities they aim to represent.

📅 Workshop Details:

Monday, May 19th at 3 p.m. EST | Thursday, May 29th at 6 p.m. EST
🔗 Zoom Links: Join here for the 19th and here for the 29th.

Each session will offer opportunities to build shared understanding, reflect on your own experiences, and connect with others committed to collective learning and building. We’ll also hold space for any questions, feedback, or insights you’d like to share about how the handbook is showing up in your work.

Please feel free to forward this invitation to others you think may want to attend.

Looking forward to being in community with you soon!
